A-N MAGAZINE FEATURE

I paint the moments of my life that I wish to hold onto forever. I have spent the greatest, most transcendental moments of my life with good friends. In my work, I keep going back to great conversations over beer and fries or laying in bed at 7 in the morning after a rave, three of us staring at one phone watching half-funny Tiktoks, dreading the comedown but knowing that we will tightly hold each other through it. I paint my new friend eating noodles and going through my notes, to remember that I stopped feeling lonely when I could sit and study with them, that I realized I had a new meaningful person in my life when they took care of me when I was sick, I paint my best friend getting dressed, one sock-less foot, ready to go turn heads at breakfast with beautiful clothes all made by himself. For a while, I only painted my friends back home in Argentina and my self-portraits were of me alone in the studio with a long face. I find the act of painting extremely pleasurable, but it often feels individualistic. My work honours these moments that made me feel part of something, that made me feel loved, I am full, and I can give back to them. It takes a committed friendship to be comfortable like this, to feel at home with someone and experience real intimacy, and once you get it, you want to hold on to it tight as teeth. I wish to invite viewers to connect to their own memories of feeling this way. I also want to show my friends how beautiful they are.
